Homeowners Guide to Solar

Monitoring Policy

Ensure Your Solar System Is Always Performing at It's Best

As your solar installer, our main goals are to complete your installation and provide you with tools to monitor your system’s performance. Although we routinely monitor system performance, we recommend that you review your system’s monitoring portal frequently for any potential alerts that would need attention from our team.

The majority of issues can be resolved remotely; however, if an on-site visit is required, we will schedule and address the problem promptly. Although most on-site services are free, please confirm any potential fees when scheduling the appointment.

At Rooftop Power, we carefully select the manufacturers we collaborate with and ensure that they offer strong warranties for our customers. This means that if your equipment needs replacement, you may incur no cost for the equipment itself, depending on the warranty term specified in your installation agreement.

During inclement weather, such as snow or heavy rain, solar power generation may decrease. While Rooftop Power does not remove snow from panels, we have noticed that snow generally melts off solar panels faster than from non-solar roof areas.

How Solar Incentives Work

Managing Incentives and Maximizing Savings

With Net-Metering, you receive one-for-one credit based on your solar production and household consumption. NetMetering homeowners are classified in two categories:

If you allocate credits to another account, the corresponding dollar value will be deducted from the total NEM credit value for the other listed account(s).

Your utility provider will assess the dollar value of your solar energy production using your Performance Based Incentive (PBI) rate for the billing period. They will then deduct a portion of this value from your bill and pay the remainder to you by either issuing a check or arranging a direct deposit. If you choose to allocate bill credits to another account, the corresponding dollar value will be deducted from the total PBI and applied to those accounts.

Connected Solutions is performance-based, like other incentives. Homeowners will receive a fixed incentive rate each summer and winter for the first five years of the program. Based on your battery’s performance, you will receive a check at the end of each participating season for the power exported to the grid. For details on summer schedules for the incentive program, please consult your utility provider.

Documentation and Payments

Get The Documents You Need for Your Tax Return

If you are unsure about the documentation required for your tax return, please be aware that Rooftop Power does not offer tax or legal advice. Always seek guidance from your tax advisor.

Generally, your installation agreement with Rooftop Power should be sufficient. If your tax advisor requires additional documentation or if you cannot locate your installation agreement, please contact our support team, and we will provide the necessary information.

Please keep in mind that most lenders calculate payments based on the net cost, as if the tax credit is applied. If the tax credit is not applied to the loan, your monthly payment will increase. To maintain your original monthly payment amount, it is important to apply the full tax credit to the loan. We recommend consulting your tax advisor and lender for specific details.

Timeline on Solar Utility Bills

From Sun to Savings: How Your Solar Billing Works

After your solar system is approved and activated by your utility provider with Net Metering, you’ll see solar credits on your next bill. For REGrowth homeowners, it may take up to two billing cycles for the generation meter to appear on your statements, but all generation credits will be applied from the authorization date.

Billing statements can be confusing. If you have any questions or concerns about your bill, we recommend getting in touch with your utility provider directly. While Rooftop Power is happy to assist with any inquiries, our ability to resolve or advise on billing issues is limited. Your utility company has all the necessary information and documentation to address all your billing-related questions.
